Story

We cover all aspects with performance under pressure and reality as foundation for everything we do. We carry out every scenario as if it was without the option of saying stop, and we do this better then most

Christian Palmér and Dr. Richard Hartmann were under the leadership of Itay Gil and took the Air Safe course he developed in 1997, ahead of his time before 9/11 and together added the missing parts to perfect the in-flight cabin crew security training experience to what is by some considered the best in the world today

Between 2007 and 2013 there were over 28,000 reported cases of unruly passenger incidents. With an increase by 30 percent per year, the unruly passenger problem is a top priority according to The International Air Transport Association (IATA) that during the 70th Annual General Meeting (AGM) a unanimously adopted resolution, which calls on governments and the aviation industry to work together on a balanced package of measures to effectively deter and manage this significant problem, was implemented. Such behavior includes committing physical assault, disturbing good order on board or failing to follow lawful crew instructions. Our Air Safe course is conducted at the very highest level, all aspects are taken into account and it starts from the very moment the passengers enter the aircraft with screening, body language, observation of behavior, identify suspicious behavior and identify potential safety and security risks. At the same time you learn what to look for in a potential ally among the passengers, who could be the right person to approach if assistance is required? The legal aspect, IATA/ICAO, zero tolerance, Pilot in command (PIC) responsibilities, statistics and a general overview are looked at and discussed. If there is no Air Marshal on-board the aircraft the cabin crew are in a unique position, the last line of defense. Terrorist tactics and counter-terror policy are identified and discussed. Communication skills, de-escalation and dealing with situations under high pressure are simulated in several ways. Scenario based live drills with confusion, distraction and disorientation are conducted. Strategy, tactics, leadership and teamwork, including hand signals between crew members are tried and tested under different scenarios. Scenarios involving everything from a full scale hijacking attempt, to non threatening, “over-friendly” intoxicated behavior is simulated to better understand the early warning signs.

Since his retirement from active commercial flying, he remains active in aviation as a flight operations consultant. During his aviation career, Captain Steve has owned and operated three FAA approved part 141 Flight Schools.
